Representatives of the "Institute of Geography and Water Security" JSC, including the Chairman of the Board, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.R. Medeu; the Head of the Laboratory of Regional Climate Changes, PhD Zh.K. Naurozbayeva; and Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Hydrochemistry and Environmental Toxicology, PhD D.M. Burlibayeva, participated in a "Field Day" and a foresight session organized by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event, titled "Sustainable Agricultural Development: Effective and Safe Water Resources Management," took place at the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Growing (Almalybak village, Karasay district, Almaty region) on July 27, 2024.

During the Plenary Session, the Chairman of the Board, A.R. Medeu, delivered a report titled "Water Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Issues of Water Allocation, Water Conservation, and Increasing Disposable Water Resources." The report emphasized pressing water security concerns, the scarcity of water resources, and their vulnerability under conditions of rapid climate change. The results of these research activities were detailed in the multi-volume monographs "Water Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Transboundary Basins of the Ile and Yertis Rivers" (8 volumes) and "Water Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Transboundary Aral-Syr Darya Basin" (9 volumes), which were showcased as exhibition materials. For his contribution, A.R. Medeu was honored with a Letter of Appreciation from the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Institute’s presentation materials—the result of collaboration between various research organizations—garnered significant interest from participants, leading to numerous proposals for future cooperation. In the afternoon, a foresight session was held with the participation of the Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, A.S. Serikkanov.

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Science" (No. 407-IV, dated February 18, 2011), the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducts foresight research on the development of science and technology. This includes formulating recommendations for priority areas in scientific, technical, and innovative activities, as well as strategic, fundamental, and applied research.

As part of this initiative, the Academy held foresight sessions with the expert community to discuss promising scientific directions aimed at solving real-sector economic problems. These discussions will inform the state's priority funding for science. Following the initial results, a foresight session was conducted to announce new advancements, with participants from previous pre-foresight studies invited to attend. Representing the Institute, PhD and Senior Researcher D.M. Burlibayeva presented a report titled "Pre-foresight and Water Security of Kazakhstan." Her presentation covered core concepts, brief methodological descriptions, and the results of pre-foresight studies in the field of "Water Security" conducted in late 2023. The session concluded with an interdisciplinary discussion among specialists from various sectors.
