STRUCTURE AND COMPOSITION
The institute houses two scientific centers: the Center for Water Safety and the Center for Geographical Research, which consist of 11 laboratories:

- Geotourism and Geomorphology
- Natural Hazards
- Water Resources
- Water Supply for Natural-Economic Systems and Mathematical Modeling
- Geographic Information Systems
- Hydrochemistry and Ecological Toxicology
- Geospatial Economics
- Extreme Hydrological Events
- Water Demand Management and Regional Climate Change
Additionally, there are three year-round field research stations located in the mountains of the Northern Tien Shan, in the Aral Sea region, and in the Pre-Balkhash area.
STAFF COMPOSITION
Currently, the Institute of Geography and Water Safety is one of the oldest research centers in Kazakhstan specializing in geography and the only one in the Central Asian region. The current staff of the institute consists of 170 people, including 3 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 12 doctors of science, 26 candidates of science, 8 PhD holders, and 2 doctoral students.
More than 50% of the institute's employees are young specialists.
