SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

During the period from 2019 to 2024, the JSC Institute of Geography and Water Security implemented 8 scientific and technical programs within the framework of program-targeted funding (PTF), of which 5 were carried out independently by the Institute and 3 as co-executors. Additionally, the Institute worked on 18 grant-funded projects and 23 contractual works on applied research.

Contract works on applied research in the period 2019-2024:

  • Assessment and forecast of water availability for the natural-economic system of the Irtysh Basin, taking into account the prospects of agricultural development of the territory and inter-basin redistribution of water resources.

  • Placement of the International Water Assessment Center in Kazakhstan.

  • Compilation of the map of the distribution area of essential oil plants in the South Kazakhstan region as part of the project: "Landscape studies of the South Kazakhstan region, creation of an ecological-geographical map, determination of plant raw material reserves, extraction of essential oils and applications in the field of biology."

  • Comprehensive assessment of the ecosystems of the Shchuchinsk-Borovsk resort zone with determination of ecological load for sustainable use of recreational potential.

  • Creation of the Atlas of Kyzylorda region and interactive maps based on GIS technologies.

  • Interactive ethnographic map.

  • Services for ground-based laser scanning of the terrain in the Esik district, Almaty region, the valley of the Kora River.

  • Waterway passports of Kazakhstan.

  • Inventory of landslide-prone areas in the city of Almaty.

  • Development of passports for small lakes in Kazakhstan.

  • Comprehensive analysis of the condition of water resources in the Kazakhstan-China transboundary river basins of Ili and Irtysh.

  • Methodological aspects of determining the mass of glaciers in Kazakhstan based on remote sensing data analysis and field studies.

  • Hydrological studies in the basins of the transboundary rivers Ural and Irtysh.

  • Development of sections for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the development of tourism infrastructure in the Altyn-Emel National Park and Charyn National Park.

  • Determining the optimal water level of Lake Balkhash.

  • Services for determining the risk of landslides in the city of Tekeli, Almaty region.

  • Scientific research for the restoration of the Konchubai ravine for the company "Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V."

  • Development of an integrated ecological sensitivity map for the protected area of the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea.

  • Creation of a water management balance for the transboundary rivers Karaozen (Big Uzene) and Saryozan (Small Uzene).

  • Creation of the plant cadastre for the Ulytau region as part of the implementation of the Republic of Kazakhstan's "On Plant Life" law for sustainable use of botanical resources in the region.

  • Development of a tourism strategy and tourist routes, taking into account the determination of recreational load standards in the Ulytau district and the Ulytau National Park.

  • Scientific justification of the project and the development of cost estimates for determining the risk of dangerous aeolian processes in the settlements of Tajen, Syngyrlau, Sam, Turys, and Akzhigit in the Buzdyk district, Senek and Bostan in the Karakiyan district, Zharmys and Akshymyray in the Mangystau district, and Taushyk in the Tupkaragan district of Mangystau region.

  • Restoration and preservation of the ecosystem of Burabay National Nature Park.
